Speedtouch USB xDSL modem Support

Note: The Speedtouch USB xDSL modem driver contained in these files does not work on multiple processor (SMP) systems.

Download files:

  1. Insert a diskette into the floppy drive on a system with an Internet connection
  2. Point your Web browser to http://support.xandros.com/downloads/speedtouch
  3. Download the below files onto your floppy diskette:
    speedtouch_1.1-1_i386.deb
    speedmgmt.tar.gz
  4. Eject the diskette from the floppy drive

Install .DEB files:

  1. Log on to Xandros Desktop as administrator (root)
  2. Insert the diskette, with the downloaded file, into the floppy drive
  3. Select Launch | Applications | System | Console
  4. Type "mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/fd0" (without quotations and 0s are zeroes) and press Enter
  5. Type "tar -xzf /mnt/fd0/*.gz" (without quotations and 0 is a zero) and press Enter
  6. Type "dpkg -i /mnt/fd0/*.deb" (without quotations and 0 is a zero) and press Enter
  7. When prompted with the message: "Please specify the location of the microcode file.", type "/root/mgmt/mgmt.o" (without quotation marks and o is the lower case letter) and press Enter
  8. When prompted for login and password, type the login name and password provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  9. When prompted for the vpi and vci codes, type separately the vpi and vci codes for your country
  10. When prompted for some pppd options, answer yes to all by typing "Y" (without quotation marks) and press Enter
  11. Type "umount /mnt/fd0" (without quotations and 0 is a zero) and press Enter
  12. Eject diskette from floppy drive
  13. Restart computer

When the computer restarts, your xDSL should be connected. To test if the connection works, open a WEB browser and enter the address of an known working WEB site.
